Advanced EMDR protocols

The right protocol for the clinical need.

The standard EMDR protocol is the foundation. Specialized procedures may be selected when a recent event, complex presentation, future fear, or need for greater containment calls for adaptation.

R-TEP

The Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol may be used for recent traumatic experiences and their ongoing aftermath, including current triggers and continuing concerns.

G-TEP

The Group Traumatic Episode Protocol incorporates stabilization, grounding, containment, and focused processing while protecting participants' privacy.

IGTP

The Integrative Group Treatment Protocol applies EMDR principles in a structured group format and limits the need for detailed verbal disclosure.

Loving Eyes

A parts-informed procedure developed by Dr. Jim Knipe that may support compassionate internal connection when younger or protective parts carry shame, fear, loneliness, or rejection.

Future Template & Flashforward

The Future Template strengthens adaptive responses for anticipated situations. Flashforward may target a catastrophic future image that drives fear or avoidance.

EMDR 2.0 & selected adaptations

Selected strategies may support working-memory engagement and processing when standard procedures require clinically appropriate modification.

Pain & somatic distress

EMDR may be integrated when emotional stress, trauma, or medical experiences contribute to persistent pain or physical activation. It does not replace medical care.

Recent and ongoing stress

Target planning can include the onset event, the aftermath, current triggers, and future concerns when stress remains active or unresolved.

Complex presentations

Greater preparation, restricted processing, parts-informed work, and careful pacing may be required for complex trauma or dissociative responses.

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.”Peter A. Levine, PhD

Protocol selection follows assessment.

Not every protocol is appropriate for every client. Selection depends on clinical presentation, stability, goals, available resources, and readiness for processing.
